eddington turns giddy up into paulas mexican and greek restaurant

Welcome to T or C, Eddington!

Truth or Consequences

There’s currently a lot of buzz in downtown Truth or Consequences thanks to producer / writer / director Ari Aster — the guy behind “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “Beau Is Afraid” — bringing his latest movie production to town.

Eddington” is described as a “film noir ensemble western dark comedy” and features a jaw-dropping cast of Oscar / Golden Globe / BAFTA winners and nominees, as well as two members of the SNL Five-Timers Club. Cast members include Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., and old-school nepobaby Candice Bergen (we kid, but if you don’t know, look it up).

Phoenix stars as Joe Cross, a small-town sheriff in pandemic-era New Mexico.

The plot is rumored to be about a couple running out of gas near the fictional town of Eddington, where a warm welcome by day turns into something else entirely after nightfall. Intriguing!

A lot of filming has occurred in the 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway, with the former BBQ on Broadway location fully decked out as the Sevilla County Sheriff’s office.

Several other buildings have undergone transformations as well. Giddy Up Cafe, a favorite among locals and visitors for its fresh food and patio seating, is currently dressed up as Paula’s Cafe, where Mexican and Greek food are served daily (but only to Eddingtonians). Galactic Digs is in temporary Vacuum Sales & Service mode. And the empty buildling at the corner of Jones and McAdoo, formerly El Rio Video, cafe BellaLuca and Old Brick Cafe, has turned into “GUNTHERS,” a fictional vendor of guns, knives, and ammo.

Location scouts and other crew members have been a friendly presence in town, holding a casting call for extras, communicating with business owners regarding street closures and borrowed buildings, hanging out at T or C Brewing, and even hosting a social hour there.
